Geometry and Spatial Sense, Video 1
Teacher: I thought I might put something that's a shape. Ooh, I got to hide my hands or I'll give it away. Not you Marilyn, just me. I'm gonna put something that's a shape inside a bag, and I'm wondering if you guys can help other kids to guess what it is. What do you think, Jammie?
Jammie: Circle.
Teacher: Sure. You think it's gonna be a circle. Do you guys want to make some guesses about what you think I'm gonna put in the bag? Okay, so Jammie says a circle. What other shapes do you guys think might be in the bag?
Girl: Triangle!
Teacher: Maybe a triangle. Girl: A diamond!
Teacher: M-Maybe a diamond. Girl: A diamond.
Teacher: A diamond, and Amy's showing us with her fingers. Girl: And a circle.
Teacher: Or maybe a circle. I know I have trouble with the thumb part of the circle. Or maybe... So you guys know a lot of shapes already. Do you -- Does it feel curved or pointy? It feels -- [Gasps] It feels pointy. Can you tell me how many points? Reach in there and tell me how many points it has. One. How about this side? Two. How about this side?
Boy: One.
Teacher: One. You felt one point. Okay, pointy. And then I'm gonna have Joceline come up and tell me if she -- how many points she feels. Okay, Joceline, come on up and tell me how many points you feel.
Joceline: Three.
Teacher: Three. There's three points. Do you guys know any shapes that have three? Girl: Triangle!
Teacher: The triangle. If you think it might be a triangle in the bag, raise your hand. And let me write down three points 'cause we learned it was hard, smooth, pointy, and had three points. You think it's the triangle, too.
Joceline: I know it is.
Teacher: You know it is. Look! It was the triangle!
