Head Start agencies that provide services to children and families must meet the Head Start Program Performance Standards (the Performance Standards) and the requirements set forth in the Head Start Act of 2007. They also must adhere to fiscal regulations and other terms and conditions of their grant. To support grant recipients, the Office of Head Start offers direction through Program Instructions and Information Memoranda. More guidance is available to recipients through their federal program specialist.
Occasionally, changes are made through a notice of proposed rulemaking in the Federal Register to better meet the needs of programs, staff, children, and families. Visit this page to explore current Head Start policy and regulations.
