Some of the files on the Early Childhood Learning and Knowledge Center (ECLKC) (e.g., PDFs or Microsoft Word documents) require a viewer or "plug-in" to open or view. These plug-ins are very common, so you likely already have them on your computer, but if not, you may need to install a particular one to view some of the files on this site.

What are the minimum system requirements for viewing multimedia resources?
To view multimedia files, such as the 15-minute In-service Suites, your computer will need to meet certain requirements. It should be able to play videos, and open PDFs, PowerPoints, and Word documents on the platform of your choice.
Mobile
Videos are compatible with all Apple iOS and Google Android mobile devices. Videos require a mobile 4G connection for optimal playback.
Windows
- Windows 8, 7, Vista, or XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
- Presentation software capable of reading a PowerPoint file such as:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 or newer
- OpenOffice Impress, a free download from Apache.org
- Word processing software capable of reading a Word document such as:
- Microsoft Word 2007 or newer
- OpenOffice Writer, a free download from Apache.org
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Streaming videos through a web browser requires a 2 Mb/s Broadband connection or better for optimal playback
- Local video playback requires Apple QuickTime 7 or newer, the VLC Player, Windows Media Player 12 or newer (for Windows 7 or newer only), or an equivalent video player
Macintosh
- OS 10.4 or higher
- Presentation software capable of reading a PowerPoint file such as:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2008 or newer
- OpenOffice Impress, a free download from Apache.org
- Word processing software capable of reading a Word document such as:
- Microsoft Word 2008 or newer
- Adobe Acrobat Reader

If your computer does not meet these requirements, you may have trouble viewing video or other materials on the site.
How do I retrieve the materials from a .zip file?
You must unzip the .zip file to view in-service materials. See instructions below.
Windows
Right-click the .zip file, then select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
Macintosh
Double-click the .zip file. You will see a progress bar indicating that the file is being unzipped.
After the .zip file is unzipped, a folder containing the materials will appear next to the .zip file.
