Motivational Interviewing-Debriefs: Ms Jefferson-Clip-1
Narrator: You’ve had time to reflect on your interaction with Mary. How do you think it went?
Ms. Jefferson: I think it went well. I can see where some people might feel like I wasn’t successful, because Mary didn’t agree to have the mental health consultant observe Joe, but, really my goal is to help Mary feel that we are supporting her ability to make decisions for her own family. Having the mental health consultant come and observe was our idea.
We firmly believe that Mary knows what is best for her child and her family. If she doesn’t believe having a mental health consultant observe, right now, is a good idea then she must have very good reasons for that. I want Mary to understand that we value and respect her opinions.
