This document introduces the PBC Coach Competencies. The competencies identify the key skills and expertise that embody an effective PBC coach and are organized into six domains that align with the PBC model: Preparation; Collaborative Partnerships; Goal Setting and Action Planning; Focused Observation; Reflection and Feedback; and Professional Development.
The intent of PBC Coach Competencies is to support PBC efforts. At the program level, the competencies can help identify desired coaching practices and skills to update job descriptions and recruit and hire coaching staff. Programs can also develop and identify professional development opportunities that support coaches to refine coaching competencies. For individual coaches, the competencies can support self-reflection, support supervision of the coach, and identify the coach’s professional development strengths and needs.
