Supervising home visitors in Early Head Start and Head Start programs requires knowledge and skills in many areas, some very specific. Supervisors should know how to support a family and their home visitor through a challenging situation, manage relationships, and promote positive family and child outcomes. Additionally, supervisors must support and maintain professional boundaries within reflective supervision and within the home visiting relationships, as well as support staff wellness and home visitor safety. To ensure these supports to home visitors, supervisors must balance their different responsibilities, such as administrative supervision and reflective supervision.
