Mindfulness in Head Start Settings

Woman with eyes closed and hands crossed over her heart.Mindfulness can help relieve stress. Research shows that mindfulness supports early childhood educators’ ability to manage emotional distress, improve staff morale, and increase feelings of well-being. Mindfulness has also been shown to improve social skills and self-regulation in young children.

Mindfulness in Head Start Settings is an online learning module designed for early childhood educators and program directors interested in exploring mindfulness as a strategy to support staff and the children in their care. In the module, learn from Head Start teachers and clinical psychologists about the benefits of mindfulness and how to launch a mindfulness program in your early childhood setting. It also includes video clips of 3-year-olds engaged in mindfulness practices.

To access the course, log into the Individualized Professional Development (iPD) Portfolio. Receive 0.1 continuing education units or one contact hour for completing the course.

Use the Mindfulness in Head Start Settings Toolkit to learn more ways to include mindfulness practices in your program.
