Teachers may use this guide as a resource to respond to children’s interests and curiosity as they explore the natural world around them: soil, rocks, water, trees, leaves, worms, and the sounds and colors of nature.
Teacher's Guide
This guide includes a section on habitats, exploring wind, recycling, and using tools to explore nature. Through planned explorations, teachers will engage children in the process of scientific inquiry. Teachers will also find suggested activities, related vocabulary, and recommended books and materials for each topic to guide these explorations.
Recommended Materials
Teachers will find a list of equipment, supplies, and books to facilitate children’s science explorations of the natural world around them. The list is divided into basic equipment and materials to support explorations of live specimens such as earthworms, plants, and small animals, and natural materials such as pinecones, feathers, twigs, and seeds.
