Director Khari M. Garvin: Hello everyone. I am Khari Garvin, director of the Office of Head Start. As National Teacher Appreciation Week approaches May 6 through 10, I want to give a warm, heartfelt thank you to all our Head Start and Early Head Start program teachers, assistant teachers, and home visitors across the country.
Our Head Start educators make the world a brighter place for all children and families being served in communities with the highest need. We appreciate how you go above and beyond every single day, from promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills, to supporting social, emotional, behavioral, and language development for our children and families.
OHS is committed to continuing to invest in our workforce and to work with programs to implement policies and procedures that advocate for staff mental health and wellness support.
At OHS central office, we also have a network of resources that I encourage you to explore, such as the Individual Professional Development Portfolio, where you can earn free continuing education credits.
Don’t forget to subscribe to our email list for resources on development, teaching, and learning, and join MyPeers, where early childhood professionals brainstorm, exchange ideas, and share resources with colleagues from across the country.
Thanks again for all you do to support Head Start and Early Head Start children and help them to be successful in school and in life. So long.
