Visual Guide to Dual Language Learners in Head Start Programs

The Office of Head Start promotes the full and effective participation of children who are dual language learners (DLLs) and their families. This is accomplished through the comprehensive management structure known as a coordinated approach. Head Start programs provide services to many children who are DLLs. They also employ staff who speak various languages in addition to English. When Head Start programs are aware of their local demographics, they can effectively address the broad scope and specific needs of enrolled children who are DLLs, their families, and staff.
